7/15/2012: Hillary Clinton was today visiting the Egyptian port city of Alexandria today, to mark the re-opening of the US consulate there. As she visited, Clinton's motorcade was pelted by tomato-throwing demonstrators, screaming “Monica, Monica” and “Irhal, Clinton” (Get out, Clinton.) (AFP) According to Raw Story, "the protest appears to have been the result of suspicions that Washington had helped the Muslim Brotherhood win elections in Egypt."
Clinton had the following to say at the opening of the consulate: "I want to be clear that the United States is not in the business, in
Egypt, of choosing winners and losers, even if we could, which, of
course, we cannot."
It is really absurd for Clinton to say something like that, if you think about it. The US chose Hosni Mubarak for all the years that he ruled as dictator in Egypt. The US chooses today to give billions of dollars of military aid to the Egyptian army, despite the military council disbanding the Egyptian Parliament. The US chooses to give unconditional aid to Israel despite the fact that Israeli settlements are continually growing, with over half a million illegal Israeli settlements outside the Green Line.
Someone should tell Hillary, it's time you stop peddling lies, and accept that the US *is* in the business of choosing winners and losers. It's a matter of basic honesty and decency for her to acknowledge that the US is picking winners and losers throughout the Middle East, but apparently Clinton thinks that the truth is too dangerous for the public to handle.
